THE WOMAN BEHIND THE PINK SMOKE
The Rebel Cowgirl
I didn’t become Wild Jai because life was easy.
I became her because the woman buried beneath the expectations, heartbreak, and survival
deserved to ride free.
I didn’t find myself. I dug her out from under everything I was told to be, handed her a hot pink hat,
and let her run wild.

BEFORE THE PINK SMOKE
I Wasn’t Always This Wild.
For a long time, I got damn good at being who I thought I was supposed to be.
I knew how to survive. How to keep going when I was tired. How to squeeze myself into places, expectations, and versions of a life that never fit me in the first place.
I learned how to behave. How to be practical. How to fold pieces of myself away until I barely recognized the woman looking back at me.
And from the outside?
I probably looked like I was living.
But underneath the heartbreak, the responsibility, the fear, and every damn thing I had piled on top of her, there was still a woman with dirt under her nails and a little rebellion left in her soul.
She wasn’t gone.
She was buried.
And eventually, she got tired of waiting for someone else to dig her out.
WILD JAI WASN’T CREATED.
SHE WAS UNCOVERED.

THE DAY I STOPPED CALLING IT LIVING
I Didn’t Blow Up My Life.
I Finally Started Listening to It.
There wasn’t one dramatic moment when everything changed.
No lightning bolt. No grand escape. No perfectly timed sign telling me it was finally okay to become someone else.
It was quieter than that.
It was the slow, uncomfortable realization that I had gotten so good at surviving my life, I had forgotten to ask whether I actually wanted it.
I started noticing the things I had spent years trying not to notice.
The places I had outgrown. The dreams I kept talking myself out of.
The parts of me I only let out in small doses because I was afraid of what might happen if I gave them the whole damn room.
And once I started listening, I couldn’t unhear myself.
Something inside me wanted more.
Not more stuff. Not a shinier version of the same life.
More truth. More freedom. More room to become.
I didn’t have a map for where I was going.
I just knew staying there was costing me more of myself than I was willing to lose.
Sometimes reinvention doesn’t begin
when you know where you’re going.
It begins when you finally admit
you can’t stay where you are.

THE BEGINNING OF MY OWN DAMN LIFE
I Didn’t Know Exactly Where I Was Going.
I Just Finally Started Going.
I didn’t have a five-year plan.
I didn’t have a perfect timeline, a map with a big pink X on it, or some grand vision of the woman I was going to become.
Hell, I didn’t even know there was a Wild Jai waiting for me yet.
I just knew I couldn’t keep standing in the same place,
pretending that surviving was the same thing as living.
So I started moving.
Not all at once. Not fearlessly. And definitely not gracefully.
I started with small things.
I paid attention to what made me feel alive.
I stopped dismissing the things I loved just because
they didn’t make sense to anyone else.
I let myself want more.
More color. More freedom. More adventure. More truth. More of the woman I kept catching glimpses of when I stopped trying so damn hard to be someone else’s version of me.
And every time I chose her, I recognized a little more of myself.
Every boundary.
Every dream I stopped apologizing for.
Every time I said this matters to me without needing anyone else to understand why.
Every tiny act of choosing myself became another shovel full of dirt thrown off the woman I had buried.
I still didn’t know her name.
But I could feel her coming.
The woman I had buried
was finally starting to move.
was finally starting to move.
I wasn’t Wild Jai yet.
But I was headed straight toward her.

THERE YOU ARE.
Turns Out, She’d Been Me All Along.
Somewhere along the way, I stopped chasing the woman I thought I was supposed to become.
And started recognizing the one who had been waving at me from underneath all the bullshit.
She showed up every time I chose what felt true instead of what looked acceptable.
Every dream I quit talking myself out of.
Every opinion I stopped swallowing.
Every little piece of myself I quit sanding down so other people would feel more comfortable.
For years, I thought I was too complicated.
Too hard to understand.
Too different.
Too stubborn.
Too restless.
Too emotional.
Too damn wild.
Turns out…
Nothing about me needed fixing.
I was just trying to squeeze a wildfire into
rooms built for candles.
The more I stopped apologizing for who I was…
The easier she became to recognize.
She was the woman with Badlands dust on her boots
and rebellion stitched into her soul
The woman who chased stories instead of approval.
Who loved roadside diners, ridiculous dreams, strong coffee, outrageous desserts, and little adventures that somehow became the best memories.
The woman who believed life was meant to be lived with dirt on her jeans, pink smoke on the horizon, and enough courage to keep choosing herself.
She wasn’t waiting for permission.
She was waiting for me.
She didn’t need to be invented.
She needed to be set free.
And one day…
I finally stopped introducing myself as everyone else.
I looked at the woman staring back at me and thought…
There you are.
Wild Jai.
I didn’t become someone else.
I finally stopped being everyone but me.
WHAT WILD REALLY MEANS
Wild Was Never About Breaking Rules.
It Was About Coming Home.
Somewhere along the way, the world convinced us that being wild meant being reckless.
That curiosity was childish.
That dreaming was impractical.
That standing out was dangerous.
That wanting more meant being ungrateful.
But the older I get, the more I think we’ve had it backwards all along.
Wild isn’t about escaping your life.
It’s choosing the road that makes your soul exhale, even when everyone else is pointing in the opposite direction.
It’s believing that the things that make you different were never mistakes to fix.
They were clues.
Wild is falling in love with ordinary moments.
A cup of coffee before the world wakes up.
A dusty road with no destination.
A pocket full of rocks that probably mean nothing to anyone else…
…but somehow mean everything to you.
It’s laughing so hard your stomach hurts.
Stopping for the roadside attraction everyone else drives past.
Ordering dessert first once in a while.
Taking the long way home because you’re in no hurry to miss your own life.
It’s understanding that adventure isn’t measured in miles.
Sometimes it’s measured in courage.
The courage to tell the truth.
The courage to disappoint people.
The courage to build a life that finally feels like it belongs to you.
Because that’s the kind of wild I’ve been chasing all along.
Not chaos.
Not perfection.
Freedom.
The kind that doesn’t come from running away.
The kind that comes from finally standing still long enough to hear your own soul say…
There you are.
Wild doesn’t ask you to become someone else.
It asks you to stop pretending to be someone you’re not.
That’s the rebellion.
Not against the world.
Against every voice that ever taught you
to trade pieces of yourself for acceptance.
Wild isn’t who I became.
It’s who I finally stopped hiding.

I don’t have everything figured out.
I still take wrong turns.
I still doubt myself sometimes.
But one thing has changed.
I finally know who’s walking the road.
And I’m never leaving her behind again.
